Hello Everyone
I watched this one evening on youtube whilst off work with the lurgy, The History of ABU Garcia reels from the beginning. I thought it was interesting seeing that I've started collecting ABU fishing tackle and bits. Don't know if it's been on the forum anywhere before. but if you watch I hope you enjoy if you hadn't already seen it.

Tony. I've just watched this. Thank you. I've started on the ABU journey recently and see like me you like and use the little 40s. Lovely little reel and somewhat overshadow by their bigger brothers.

Thank you, I enjoyed watching that.
The new edition of Tight Lines was always eagerly awaited in my youth.
I couldn't afford the tackle, but even the catalogue somehow oozed quality, and the paper had a smell all of its own.

Re: The History of ABU reels
It's a real shame that ABU is now just one of a number of reel manufacturers. In its day there was nothing to touch them and after moving the production to the far east, they have lost their identity. I think pure fishing made a mistake and should have kept the brand for high end, expensive, high quality items and produced run of the mill tackle under another brand.
Swedish made reels, lures etc., now sell at a premium.

Re: The History of ABU reels
Agree Phil. I've not really looked at ABU reels until this year. Well made and excellent engineered. Even the little 40s are well made. I've just bought a pair of 54s and pair of 55s (appreciate being made in 1980 is a little modern for here) and they are incredible. Now looking for pair of 66s...
