Glorious Waste of Time
Jim Gibbinson. Excellent book.
Been waiting a long time to read it. Got a paperback copy from LEP.

Re: Glorious Waste of Time
Just placed my order with Egret. Many thanks for the update.
I fished some of the same Kent waters Jim fished in the 70s- but not with the same results!

I recall writing to Jim once when I was young and to my amazement he replied immediately. His handwriting was memorable.
I was never a carp angler but I have his carp books, his first being an absolute classic.

He has an Italian thread within his family. I will never forget his article about reservoir fishing in the 70s
" James!, when you going to fish us some eels?"

Re: Glorious Waste of Time
It was a Jim Gibbinson article in Angling magazine that convinced me to try fly fishing and for that I will always be grateful. I'm pretty sure the article was titled "Come on in, the waters lovely" around 1980.

Re: Glorious Waste of Time
He was one of the great angling writers i.m.o I have most of his books(if not all of them), When A glorious waste of time came out back in the day I put it on my Chrismas list,I was gutted when I didn't get it,it turned out my daughter had left it to late to order it and it was sold out,it had played on my mind ever since, anyway just recently I finally got a copy (little egret press) Can you imagine how excited I was ? Sadly I have put it on the bookshelf only half read and forgot about it till I saw this post ,it just was not as good as I was expecting, shame, and after all these years not talking to my daughter (only joking),Perhaps it was a age thing, who knows, but I hope you enjoy yours.

Remember reading his trout articles too. He fished Hanningfield quite a bit, as did I when I lived in Essex.

Re: Glorious Waste of Time
I have a list of "wanted" fishing books, very useful for family members at birthdays and Christmas's. Glorious Waste of Time is definitely on it.
It's not just about the fish, if waters are calm or rough, even if the net stays dry, just being there's enough.
