are roach spawning late this season?

Post by Chubman »

on my local hampshire chalk steam, the roach seem to still be spawning ,is this due to the odd climate we seem to be in this summer,or is it a local phenomena ,the weed growth is a bit slow this season,i just wondered if other rivers are having the same reactions to our weather.

Everything seems to be a month late this year.

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

I don't blame the roach! I don't think I've seen a summer with such weather, it really has been the worst weather for temperatures, rain and even unseasonal high winds that I have ever seen.

The fish won't know what's going on and it doesn't look like settling down anytime soon.

Everything seems late this year but the softbill birds that migrate in ( whitethroat, Willow warbler etc) seem to have their chicks in the nest at the normal time..first weeks of June. Swallows also came in at the right time in my area. The Carp seem to have spawned later in our local lakes and dykes though.

Carp spawning with some vigour on Tuesday 2nd July, I was fishing the adjacent lake where all was quiet - they kept making me jump ! I spent more time watching the activity than fishing !!

Its quite a spectacle to witness 30ib plus carp thrashing away in the margins !

Reports from the Thames on a Thames specific forum suggest bream are the main fish being caught at the moment; this, with the fact most of the bream I've caught in the last week are still manky, indicates the bream have spawned but not long ago. And the lack of silvers sort of suggests roach and dace are still at it!

Dace spawned long ago. Roach have spawned but won't be spread out yet. They are also reluctant feeders early season especially if they've spawned late.If we get the hot spell as promised they'll start feeding better.
