Efgeeco Rods
Re: Efgeeco Rods
So it was East Anglian who bought them out? I see. Don't think they actually made the Optonic though; they were made by Dellareed, though Efgeeco sold it under licence.dgc2011 wrote:Well I enjoy "hoovering" the web but I cannot find any mention of an Efgeeco fishing rod.
The story so far:
Efgeeco is an abbreviation for Fred Goddard and Co Ltd, fishing tackle manufacturers who were based in Balham, South London. They were bought by the East anglian rod company in the 80's
They produced tackle boxes, bait boxes, reel bags, rod rests, landing nets, float and hook wallets, canvas holdalls, the revolutionary Optonic bite detector and not forgetting the fabulous Pakaseat.
It appears that John Goddard ("The Passionate Angler", published by the Medlar Press) worked for the family firm and may have been the inventor of the Pakaseat. :hat:
(John) Andrews of Arcadia may be a good source: in a recent post he spoke of a contact who worked at the Balham works in the 60’s.

Yes I'm sure Arcadia is correct although, from what I can gather, they did garden furniture and suchlike - only getting into fishing tackle when John joined the family firm after WWII.
Still no sign of rods ...

Couldn't resist posting this again
Nothing to do with Efgeeco Rods but to me Efgeeco always conjurs up a picture of my Efgeeco tackle box I have used for the last 40 years:

There are some for sale on eBay at the moment, red ones and yellow ones (sunlight liquid?), described as Old school carp fishing bobbins :hahaha:The Sweetcorn Kid wrote:Top left, think it is..... :thumb:dgc2011 wrote:Very impressive!

Re: Efgeeco Rods
It is indeed a fairy liquid top - the actual one I first used sometime in the mid 1980's.
Also clearly visible a yellow packet of Pegley Davies hooks to nylon, and just visible on the right side of the base section is an old Escudo tobacco tin - my father smoked Escudo tobacco in his pipe - so that makes the tin over 30 years old.
