Re: Worrying situation at Redmire

Post by Skeff »

Alan Richardson has posted an update on the Redmire Open Group Facebook page that may be of interest:

2018-2019 SEASON AND THE REDMIRE CONSERVATION PROJECT
Bookings for the 2018-2019 season will be taken from 10:00am on SUNDAY 28th January 2018. Enquiries for these dates will be taken on +44 (0) 1989 770703 (please note that bookings will NOT be taken on Les Bamford's mobile number or by email). For more details please see the bookings page on the Redmire Pool website.
We’re pleased to announce that major work on the Redmire Conservation Project will begin in mid-September 2018 (in addition to measures to combat ground water issues that are already under way). In February, we’ll begin sharing more details about the project, which will be led by Mark Walsingham, owner and manager of the famous Ashmead Fishery in Somerset and chief architect of the conservation plan.
Because no fishing can take place after work begins, no bookings will be taken for dates AFTER Monday 17th September 2018.
We really appreciate the tremendous support we’ve received from the community over the years, and understand the great responsibility we have for this very special water and its stock. We know many of you will have questions about the project, so we’ll try to post responses here when possible – but as we’re sure you’ll appreciate, not all details of the plan will be instantly available (and some of the mystery must be preserved).
The key news is that the project is fully funded, and we have excellent support from both local partners and the relevant national agencies. We’re very excited for the future, and remain committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere and history of Redmire Pool.
(on behalf of the Redmire Pool owners)

That is great news Skeff, will they be removing the fallen oak in this process or will that be a later project.

It's a very comprehensive project Mark. Full details will be announced when we are ready but the vision is to restore the pool so that if a member of The Carp Catchers Club walked onto the dam, they would recognise the pool they fished and see an environment as rich as that which they knew in the pool's heyday.

You couldn't ask for much more than that could you, well apart form a few monster carp. :Hat:

Very good news indeed (today's announcement above); really sounds like a huge effort has been made to set the wheels in full motion to preserve a very special place. Wonderful.

Very very good news, common sense has at last prevailed. Mark the ideal man for the job, good luck.
