Good observation, though.
Nowadays, you can get buoyant rubber casters, I believe, in a range of shades, which enables you to both neutralise the weight of the hook and "match the hatch".

Re: Ivan Marks on 'blacks'
If I have to start thinking about the weight of a hooked caster then I know it’s time to give up fishing.the only time weight will make a difference is with pike and perch, everything else will just suck the bait up.way too technical.
Don’t cast doubt,cast out.

Thank you Vole - I shall investigate your observation further. Our local tackle dealer, Woody, knows about these things.....

Pike don't care about the weight - ""does it taste nice & fit in my mouth""! I have had 3-5lb pike try running off with a whole mackerel on quite a few occasions!

Re: Ivan Marks on 'blacks'
I'm of the opinion that weight matters to bottom feeding fish that primarily use suction to pick up or 'hoover' baits, particularly tench and crucian carp. Critically balanced baits are excellent in my experience.
