ABU 507/508
Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend someone to fix my 508. I don't think the problem is major.

Hi John,
I'll have a look at it (f.O.C.), but it depends what the problem is in respect of rectifying it. Does it need any replacement parts?
Regards Cat

whats happening with it ? is it operational or mechanical ? .if its simple then you might be able to deal with it yourself ,if its not then you can take up cat's fine offer..

Re: ABU 507/508
Basically I started to take it apart to clean and oil and when I put it back together it wouldn't wind backwards. I am not very mechanical but would say I took the backwind out forty years ago when I used it regularly. All I really did was take the handle off. I may have a look at the spec and have another go when I have a moment.

well in normal operations ,only the pawl locking into toothed wheel ,prevents the reel turning backwards ,umm maybe a washer etc might be in the wrong order .the bearing in the handle might be on wrong way round .with the pawl out there really should nothing to prevent winding backwards,so it has too be the order of things causing a lock up.

Not sure what that would be perhaps you have forgot to put a part back in
Maybe the spacer in the handle don't know.
Like been said it's usually a sign the pawl is still in.

If not, send it to me and i'll have a play...I've 4 507's and a 508 (the joys of being ambidextrous!) that I've fully stripped and serviced.
