Hi Stefan
I recently acquired a 3 3/4" brass and ebonite fly reel with ivory (?) handle and German silver (?) rims. Its badged for Turnbull, Princes St, Edinburgh.
I used your tip for opening it and the inside is very similar to the brass reel above. For some reason I assumed my reel was made by Malloch. Am I right or is it by Slater or someone else.
Mike

If you post a picture I might be able to tell you. David Slater and Peter Malloch were close friends.
New research for my next book indicates that Slater was a very large operation in the manufacture of reels when compared to other makers.
