New fishing coat for Christmas 2019
I've asked Father Christmas for a new fishing coat for christmas.
I don't want another barbour, but more of an allround coat/jacket for my river fishing.
Can anyone recommend one? All the modern 'fishing' coats seems awful and very carp orientated to me.
I've been more inclined to look at outdoor type shops.

Lots of hunting/shooting jackets fit the bill from £600 (Larksen) downwards!
Deerhunter - Beretta - Pyke - ----- etc. Different styles/materials/etc. From Tweed to Gortex.
There are several threads on here for inspiration.
Best start with a price you wish to pay!
You can find new old stock expensive items at rock bottom prices on that "auction" site.

I have a Ridgeline Monsoon II smock for when the wet stuff is really coming down and it is great for keeping out the elements but does need base layers when it is cold out-not so much when walking but if you are sitting around then definitely. They do a coat called the Torrent III that may be worth a look.

If you want a waterproof Id go for companies like Berghaus, Patagonia, North Face, etc. Barbour still one of the best for trad fishing coats

I have plenty of Fjallraven stuff, bags, belts, hats etc, all very good quality and built to last, they do some very nice coats too (although quite pricey) I haven’t got round to buying one just yet but it’s on my list.
I have coats made by Rab, Mammut & Mountain equipment all good quality outdoor gear available from outdoor/hiking shops, I can really recommend their stuff too.

Crikey - - - £1000+ for a Fjallraven - - twice as much & even more than a Didrikson!
Could put a 2nd hand wheeled shed for that on the bank!

The Harkila Pro Hunter is head and shoulders the best coat I've owned to date. Not cheap but mine is in its 9th year yet looks virtually new and is still 100% waterproof.

I know! That’s why I’ve held off, I still really want one though, their stuff is great but the big ticket stuff is overpriced.

Re: New fishing coat for Christmas 2019
I find this specialist stuff way too pricey for a stint of bank side angling - my rule of thumb is a suitable level of layers including a thermal base for the conditions - in Autumn and Winter I always finish off with a Harris Tweed Jacket and if it’s throwing it down a £5 rain blocker coat from what was my local outdoor centre. Thermal socks and boots and your well away - with plenty of cash left to eye up some tackle if so desired. Recently I was fishing the Wye and the heavens opened for nearly all of the latter
part of the week all I had with me for rain protection was a Barbour and once it took on more than it could cope with that was that.
