Nothing too unusual there, you might try Chris Ward on

http://www.rodcraftsman.com

He keeps a good collection of rod rings. He's down Southampton way, if that's anywhere near you?

Rum...mine has a whole cane butt.
Apparently Avocets were prone to this variation, too.

Possibly a result of no decent thin sectioned whole cane around post WW2?

One chap says only Hardy had a good supply in from before the war and everybody else had to rethink their rods.

Mine must be ancient, then; the whole cane is very slim, but I thought it was a nineteen-sixties rod.
Maybe Mr Bruce had a secret stash.

I have one with a whole cane butt section, fully restored now but in a sorry state when I acquired it. The whole cane butt is very slim and I'm lead to believe it's from '55 or '56, but not been able to confirm that, either way it's a lovely rod to use, even though so far all I've had is roach to a few ounces, but on the river it's great so any fish Is a bonus when I look back at the sad bag of sticks and peeling varnish that it was when I got it. At some point it has had a repair with a non original tip ferule that seems fine, so i left it in place.

This is my whole cane butt Avon perfection, the whippings aren't as pink as they look in the pics though

Nothing wrong with a bit of pink whipping, if you're into that sort of thing....
