The fish sold as Bassa is a common cod replacement. It's a farmed catfish originating frome SE Asia. The pretty indistinct/bland flesh has a slightly blue hue to it. Large pub chains are the main user I'm told

I think I inadvertently had it or someone with me did and I tasted it as they had said - 'This doesn't taste like cod!'! No it doesn't -- but you can now buy it from most Supermarkets.
BUT:-
""Why basa fish is not good for health?
Basa is a particular variety of catfish that can survive extreme conditions, unlike other varieties. Because of its natural tendency of survival, and the ability to absorb nutrients even from contaminated waters, it poses a greater risk of hosting toxins in its body.""
