I seem to remember that the writer Cliff Parker made reference to 'pike strangling lobworms' and that surely must be one....😁

Cat stranglers was one of his expressions. I suspect we're in for a session of the Sludgethorpe Waltonians.

The last tub of lobs I got had some reet critters in there... you didn't hook the fish... the lobs brought em up in a headlock...

I must have them somewhere. The Compleat Tangler was one, I think. I remember his instructions for camouflage, using 'cow plonk', and on collecting wasp grubs. The next paragraph started, 'When you get out of hospital...'

What’s the background to the worm photograph?

In some countries (certainly Africa), worms grow up to 4ft long.

I've just thought: the Compleat Tangler was a cartoon book by Thelwell. One of Cliff Parker's books was Hook, Line and Stinker.

I expect the tail was dug up in England :Chuckle:

Worms are remarkable creatures, did anybody catch the lovely Lucy Lapwing on Winterwatch, she talked about them in one of her appearances.
