"'Dalesman' "The Avondale Hollow Built Match rod."

Post by AshbyCut »

I bought this rod a while ago as a stable mate to my "Aspindale's No 890 Areo." ... Both are 10ft 6ins in legth ... both split cane ... and hollow built .. thinking that one would act as a true 'tiddler snatcher' and the other as an 'all rounder.'

I have just finished the refurbishment of the 'Avondale,' and the measurements speak for themselves.

Measurements 'Aero 890' first ... Butt 12.87 - 11.00mm (0.50 - 0.438in) … Middle 10.12 - 7.20mm (0.408 - 0.283in) … Tip 5.19 - 2.31mm (0.214 - 0.092in). The Avondale … Butt 11.42 - 10.46mm (0.439 - 0.409in) … Middle 9.95 - 7.39mm (0.402 - 0.285in) … Tip 6.62 - 3.64mm (0.261 - 0.137in).

Need I say more ?

Hoping to try both in the very near furture !!!

Wishing you all a wonderful new season !!!

Mr Cut!
I think you will have need to say more!! About the Tip of the Avondale Match rod. Yep the one with the pointy-end measuring nearly a third of an inch!!
Even at 3.64mm it is pretty chunky v. the 890 at 2.31mm. Should it be expected that the Avondale would might have a finer tip than the 890?
All the very best to you, too, for the new season.

OOPS ... please forgive a late night typo ... 0.137in ... NOT 0.317in !!!

... and given the measurements throughout the rod the "890" is a far 'tippier' action than the more 'powerful through' action of "The Avondale."

Mal, I had to check the date of your post, I thought it would be an old one but no. It's great to have you back and I hope you get a decent bend on your beautiful rods soon - those little perch have had it too easy for too long.
