I wonder if any of these are still going?

Tackle shops
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Re: Tackle shops
Excellent find.
When I moved to Essex over 20 years ago I used to use Brainwoods in Grays.
Used to get my lugworm from him. First time bait was brilliant. Next time it was rubbish. Turned out they gave me bait that was for one of the match fisherman the first time. Shut over 10 years ago. Became a school uniform shop & now is a post office
Bait Box Stanford Le Hope is still there
Kent:
Kent Anglers Den has only recently shut I think
G.K.M Slade Green.gone
I think all the Dartford ones have now gone. I am sure someone may correct me. As there is now an Angling Direct in Crayford
London shops that I had used but are now gone:
Anglers Complete Tackle Sydenham & Eltham shut I think around 15 years ago.
Gerry's of Wimbledon have gone. Was a big shop with a Darts centre as well.
Todds tackle has gone,
There are others where addresses seem familiar but not shop names

A really quick look reveals that on p.22, Column 7, third from bottom, Hastings Angling Centre is listed.
Still going strong under the leadership of Martyn. That's as far as I got. in my excitement!

Re: Tackle shops
I can vouch for Medway tackle, Tonbridge, Kent…I popped in on Saturday to buy half a pint of casters for my late summer tench fishing…Richard the proprietor always keeps first class bait. It’s a 50 mile round trip for me but I see it as a case of use it or lose it, too many tackle shops have already closed.

Re: Tackle shops
We are extremely lucky in Hereford. I can walk over the Bishops Meadow to Sue’s Angling for a couple of pints of maggots. Or I can stroll up the Belmont, and cross over the old railway bridge to Woody’s for some item of Drennan tackle.
It doesn’t get better than this, but then, that’s why I live here….

Re: Tackle shops
Mild deviation from the angling shop theme but the Orkney boatbuilders featured in one of the adverts are still in business.
In order to shoot some close-ups, wildlife photographer ,the late Len Scapstillon, lured the orca to him by dressing as a seal.......
