hi Olly
there are quite a few inaccuracies on the Chapman site - and John's memory is failing a bit .
the 1st 500 i ever bought was unrestored , and had copper wraps a la the 550. i asked John about that and he said the 500 had never been sold with copper wraps . ok it may have been a special order , but it certainly did have copper wraps.
re butt ferrule sizes - i could not have done the repair i did this morning unless the 500 ferrule was smaller than the 550 .

a small twist in the 600 story .
this rod has never been stripped or rebuilt . while fitting the new ferrule i checked the underneath of the wrap i removed . it is neither Garnet nor Brown . it is undeniably Black.

i will rebuild the rod with Garnet wraps . black is not the best colour for a cane rod .
i stripped the rod today and another oddity came to light . it has 7 inter rings not 8 as per Chapmans specs . maybe it has been rebuilt in the past
