HELP. Bamboo needed

Post by Hovis »

I have a dear friend turning 40 VERY soon. I'd planned on making him a float tube with an image of us as kids. But disaster, my last few bits of large diameter bamboo have all cracked. Does anyone either know a supplier of 55-70mm bamboo (the supplier I've used in the past is out of stock) or has anyone got a 8" section of said bamboo they'd be willing to part with and post? I'd obviously cross you palms with the required gold pieces.

Here's hoping, thanks all.

n.b. I'm hoping our B&Q might have 1 or 2 poles left so I'm off to check now.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

Have you thought about filling the crack?
In the past I have made a feature of filling the crack with slivers of a different coloured wood. Also using wood fillers coloured with dyes. I do not try to hide the crack but make it a feature. I believe that the Japanese craftspeople fill cracked items with many types of material including gold! This process is called Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi and it results in a new more refined aspect.
Just a thought as a crack is a natural process, it is part of nature.

Funnily enough I got these at a car boot sale this morning for a fiver. About 50cm long and 7cm outside diameter.
I don't know whether I'll use them myself but I thought I'd rescue them, and they might be of use to you or someone else. I'm hoping to be at the Wally Jolly next Saturday.
