Re: 3D Printing and the Traditional Angler
They were obviously made thicker by FC for his wide drum version.
My standard Allcocks Aerial - 3.75in is 23cm being the drum width.
My standard Allcocks Sea Aerial - 4.5in also has drum of 23cm.
My Allcocks Aerial Popular - 4in has drum width of 31.6cm
My Allcocks Aerial Popular - 3.5in with a drum width of 25.5cm
All the pillars for the above visually appear (I did not remove line or the cork arbors) to be of a very similar size with the exception of the Allcocks Sea Aerial' s being visibly thicker - but none as thick as the FC version of a Match Aerial, ie 4.7cm.

JW1 sent me his Mordex Merlin to take a look at.
A couple of prototypes later:

I have reinforced the centre boss interior so it should be far less likely to crack from overtightening the screws.

I have to say a big thank you to Rod for making me a new boss, its absolutely spot on and I think with the re-enforcing around the screw holes it will not crack like its predecessor and it means another old reel will be saved from the scrap pile.Rod Fisher wrote: Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:09 pm JW1 sent me his Mordex Merlin to take a look at.

I will be getting onto to stripping the reels down shortly to return it to its original colour. Currently I am trying to create a new logo as the original is damaged.

I'm glad I could help. I look forward to seeing the reel restored to full health.JW1 wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 12:08 pm I have to say a big thank you to Rod for making me a new boss, its absolutely spot on and I think with the re-enforcing around the screw holes it will not crack like its predecessor and it means another old reel will be saved from the scrap pile.

Phil has also indicated his satisfaction with the Match Aerial check knob, which I trust he will not mind me sharing.
I am in the process of printing the Aerial clock in a new colour, with glow in the dark numbers and hands.Phil Arnott wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:45 pm I've just received the check knob Rod.... I'm well pleased thanks again.

I've also been experimenting with making 2d art with a 3d printer.

10 points if you can identify this Victorian angler and sportsman.

It isn't, but they did die in the same year.
