I'm pretty sure it was called a Century II, the II usually denotes 3.5 inch and the Century were usually wide spool, so I presume this is at least 1 inch wide. It's a late model probs early 80s when they were making the plastic backs and not long before they went under.

These (like me :eyebrow: ) date from the mid 1950s and were the forerunners of the Orlando 'Supreme', 'Major' and 'Minor' variants. They were Grice & Young's most expensive centerpin reel at the time, costing 30% more than an Avon Royal Supreme.

These early 'Jectas' don't have the adjustable brake mechanism for the spool, or the plastic 'spool direction' lever (to remind you which way you last mounted the spool on the spindle for casting).

Their backplate is slimmer as a result and its metal casting is also smooth - without those 'knobbly' textured areas seen on the later models. Overall I think this gives them much cleaner lines than the subsequent versions.

I've very recently added a third with the same stove-enamelled green finish to the backplate - but the whole spool is finished in the flat, cream enamel as used on the inner surfaces of the reel in the second picture.

They all cast very well indeed. :Thumb:

Shame about the Ledger Fisher Mick, very disappointing when that happens.

The Jecta II sounds a good result though. Have you got a picture?
