My collection of fishing baskets which my father made

Post by Barbelseeker »

Just got around to washing, ready to varnish 4 wicker/cane fishing baskets my father made during the 1960's - 1970's

Some will be going to the Rotherham vintage tackle fair, but if you are interested in any let me know - normal 10% to TFF running costs

A marvellous collection of baskets there, I wish I was able to attend just to see such beautiful wares…your father was a very talented artisan :Hat:

Nice craftsmanship Peter. Do you know how your father got into the local craft of basket-making?

It was a skill which his father practised in Poland and semi passed onto him, learning later from Harry Summers from Sutton on Trent.

The Polish family still make (or act as a collective) for local weavers:

If you view my posting “Wednesday 5th March 2025” you’ll see another basket made by your dad…..
Oh to be at my “Happy Place” where nothing matters but the being there.

Lovely work there Barbelseeker,
I have seen your dad's baskets on your other posts.. you must be very proud of him.
Im sure they will get snapped up.

Mr B.
The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

It certainly looks like it from a distance - I had to view it with the lid open and a look at the hinges and weave.
