Easy fix for slack fitting

Post by Cane »

I don’t know if anyone else has tried this, but having had a rod section fall off recently, I thought I’d try a coat of varnish on the male ferrule. The next day I rubbed it down until I had a perfect fit. The great thing is that this method is easy to reverse should anything go wrong, or you have a better idea.

An idea, but I would worry that in certain conditions, I.e, warm weather the varnish would act as an adhesive.
I have done similar on wooden ferrule protectors and have a right job to remove them.
Anyone out there who can elaborate on this though or have another idea?

Superglue works and can be cut back with wire wool and metal polish for a perfect fit. Just make sure it's fully dry before trying the ferrules together.

I've seen the careful use of candle wax mentioned on these pages I think in the past. Worked for me, stopped the knocking. Maybe not enough for a really loose ferrule.

Another trick is to blue the whole male ferrule. And then the inside of the female ferrule if needs be.

Use nail varnish, but again make sure it's dry.

Clear Top coat. Just the one coat should do!
