Re: Youngs Purist reels.
John Wilson was the inspiration behind this reel and he uses them for trotting as well as for margin carp and barbel. They are excellent reels.

Are there any models in the range better for carp fishing than others?

I wouldn't go for the lightweight other than that they are quite similar.

Re: Youngs Purist reels.
I have a Purist and have kept it, because in my opinion it's the best centrepin made within my price range.
I've owned literally dozens of aerial type pins, and consider the 'single block redesign' the best and a vast improvement on J.W.'s made
in the sixties.
Whether for trotting or margins - you won't get a better reel in my honest opinion.

Re: Youngs Purist reels.
Jim young asked a Mr G mills to make a centrepin, he gave him an old aerial match which Mr Mills took away to use over the weekend, the purist was a result of the improvements made on an aerial match
I've owned a 2030 purist from new, I've been lucky enough to have caugh double figure barbel, and various 20lb + carp, it's a solid reel!
Thanks Jim And thanks Garry, as far as trotting, it's smooth as silk, their is a left of right hand line guard if you wish.
You won't go far wrong with a purist
Just looking through some old posts killing time, I thought it worth adding that my 41lb-13oz carp was taken on my 2030 purist reel.!SOLID!
