Finally found a local supplier of balsa dowel so I thought I would try making a float from it
The larger one is glued and waiting for sealing, painting and eye to be whipped. The smaller one is a teeny Gudgeon float made from a bud or seed I found.
The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).
I think with a bit of practice you will be making floats just as good as any of us! If you take your time whipping and perhaps use thinner thread, and generally take more time over making them and with perhaps a tad more varnish, I'm sure you will soon be making fantastic floats. Nonetheless, I'm not knocking your creations and I'm sure they will catch fish. What you've made is a promising start and I look forward to seeing your next batch. But a word of warning, it is addictive; especially in the winter months!
