Well done indeed and it does look a splendid piece of kit - as a minor point even the stopper looks original as its form is exactly the same as the ones provided to me by Aspindales when they refurbished my Avondale.

The rod arrived from Austria at lunchtime today, and I have to say it's a beautiful rod in mint condition !!! I would suggest that it's hardly been used, judging from it's condition. The whippings are immaculate, the varnish excellent, all fittings are superb, and everything about it screams 'quality' to me, and would be powerful enough to handle just about anything.

Hopefully I'll get second opinions on it from more experienced cane carpers at the Old Estate Lake Day in a couple of weeks.

I've had the Vernier Gauge out ... and it's a bit of a powerful tool, this rod, which will probably cope with pike as well as good carp in snaggy swims.

The taper is as follows ...

From just below the tip guide to just above the male ferrule ... 0.157 in (4mm) to 0.374 in (9.5mm)
From just below the female ferrule to just above the handle ... 0.425 in (10.8mm) to 0.511 in (13mm)

Now ... who was wondering about catfish on cane ???

What a beauty!

Well done Mal! Nice to see you with one that doesn't need a complete rebuild!

I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

That is a lovely rod , never see anything like that here. Do the sections appear to be straight tapered?

Indeed they do, Sir.
