I try to be funny... but sometimes I merely look it! Steve

Bob, and other gents. thanks.
What you see is mostly several years of dirt and dust - it had been in a barn for many many years.
The surface of Aluminium oxidises, and that surface is very hard. As long as there's nothing 'nasty' around it doesn't deteriorate too much. (It can be attacked by both acids and alkalis.)
Wash, and wash again - toothbrush and mild soap only, nothing more abrasive.
Then I slowly clean with an oil soaked cloth and finish with a light chrome polish.
Hours of elbow grease...... and a little alchemy.....and very satisfying

What impresses me is that you have maintained (or recreated?) the patina old aluminium. Well done. :thumb:

Thanks for the heads up on that, I had a Speedia in similar condition, but it did not come up like that !!
It must have been the Alchemy I missed out on.

I keep returning to the fact that the 'before' picture was posted on April the first and wondering.......
I've found less corroded metal scuba diving in the Med!

How long should they spin for? If I flick this one it runs for over a minute....

That's amazing then!
It might be persuaded to spin for a bit longer by polishing the tip of the 'pin and the end of the screw to a real chrome like shine...I use Solvol Autosol and finish with Brasso, just because I already had them.
And I have to say that Garry Mill's 'Pin Oil' will add a bit longer too.

Hello Gents,
I created a account on here yesterday to send a private message to Brian/"Churchill" explaining the difference between the Aerial which sold on Ebay for £1120.00 and the Aerial pictured at the start of this thread.
The Aerial which sold on Ebay came out of my collection Aerials some of which can be seen on Facebook. A friend suggested I create a page to log fishing trips etc. If any of you are interested just search on facebook for "Allcock Aerial" I think it's a open page as such.
Cheerio.
