Well it's arrived and it is stunning…

Powerful but supple with a beautifully lively bend down into the handle and in no way telegraph pole like as some powerful rods can be. Any other seller would describe the condition as mint. Steve modestly noted it as 'very good'. The quality fittings are subtle, the silk whippings look understated in very deep green with fine red tippings and the varnish an impeccable glass like gloss but in no way too thick. The handle is perfectly shaped and proportioned for my smallish hands. I suspect it's been used for a few trips. The ferrule has a nice 'pop' and comes with a lovely dark onion stopper. At £225 it has to represent fantastic value.

I'd say I'd want a single rod rest to support the rod whilst holding it as the length and power means it does have a bit more weight to the tip than a MkIV but it should be perfect for my later season jaunts when the weeds are a bit thicker.

I certainly will, fingers crossed. The pool where I'm going to be using this rod has a good head of lean hard fighting commons that do look fabulous.

£225 fills an average car tank @ 3 times these days!!! I'm not saying that that's not a decent sum of money but I think that puts it in perspective - & the rod certainly looks like it's worth that.

Alternatively you could have invested your money in @ 60 odd pints of pub lager.......!!

I too am the rpuod owner of a Chapman carp rod. Mine is a 550 and is probably half a pound lighter than oyours in the curve. It too bends all the way through, seriously can't wait to try it out, and I have some perfect waters in mind too.....
