The Gemdale and Swiftdale do not appear in the part catalogue I have.

I was given a Gemdale by a friend from work. It's going to need some restoration before I can use it. Does anyone know where I can get a set of eyes and the whiping thread from please? I've never taken on anything like this before but everyone has to start somewhere.

Eyes from "Guidesnblanks" website. They also do whipping threads.

Has it retained the writing and-or the label? If so do not remove it!

Gemdale is No; 29 per the Catalogue - "speckled black/green whippings" . Same as No; 28 Swiftdale at 11 ft and No 28a . Truedale at 12ft.

Looks like a super rod I do like my Aspindale Suredale, it's a lovely float rod.

Thanks for the info Olly. It still has the writing on it and most of the label. The tip section has a slight bend on it. Any ideas for straightening?

Thanks for the exerpt from the catalog, Satt2006. It's good to know this rod's true heritage. Do you have the date of that James Aspindale & Son publication?

It was very helpful to learn that the Gemdale was designed for light ledgering, which explains the very fine tip section. Also, we now know there are at least three in existence, owned by forum members. I feel part of a very exclusive club!

You have mis-read the catalogue - as I did initially Mitch!

However the description is above the rods! So the description of the ledgering rod - Ledgerdale - is above the rod and below the last entry
"Gemdale". For the Ledgerdale it does mention the large butt ring and that the whippings are as the "Swiftdale".

Thanks, Olly. I stand corrected. The Gemdale is in fact a most serviceable general bottom rod!
