Part of the problem Stathamender is getting diverse groups to agree on a joint plan of action that will benefit both parties. We see this on the Wye where many attempts have been made to reconcile the needs of canoeists and anglers. But hostilities remain in some quarters, and this undermines the trust that is needed for an arrangement to work.
Even on our Local Fisheries Group for the Wye, which has recently devised a draft Action Plan for salmon and sea trout, different angling organisations, all passionately committed to saving the salmon, have alternative ways of applying resources (time, energy and money) to the enormous challenges the river faces, let alone the ones that are coming down the line.
It’s people and politics Stathamender, and it always will be....
