I agree. Stones lack the density of lead and make a bigger splash but, if you backwind your bait down under the rod tip to try and catch a wily old barbel, stone can be superior to lead.

One of the main issues is because of their odd shapes they don't always fly true on a long cast... I have seen them fully drilled as inline weights too... I concur with Dave... close in they are very good but less so at range...
Despite their sustainability, I have so many leads I shall continue to use them, as I doubt I'll ever use up my stock of leads in what is left of my lifetime...

check with your friendly dentist - he might just drill some out with an old drill - mine did about 10 for me some years ago but has retired since.
