There are C/Ps with a solid drum and no pins to bend/distort.

I'm looking at getting a c/pin but don't want to spend to much in case I find we are not suited!
What would you experts suggest as a nice cheap intro?

What's your max and do you want a new one or are you happy with used what will you be using it for ?
