I've got one of those Nobby! I'd go for the Avon Royal Supreme for carp and barbel as it's slightly bigger and absolutely bomb proof in construction. I use a Rapidex for much of my trotting for grayling and chub, but they are prone to damage due to the caged construction.

As Nobby is hinting, the Grice and Young reels without the adjustable drag and the high prices are every bit as good as the ARS. I've rarely felt the need to wind up the drag on my Crown Superb (same mechanism as the ARS)

Your not the first to say that to me - with regards to the G&Y for carp - but since I'm more of a Norfolk river fisherman (where there are not many barbel) this probably affects my choices: dace and roach on a rapidex is heaven for me!!
