BJP,

I normally use a Bruce and Walker CTM12 because it is a nice length for float fishing and it has an action that gives some leverage (the thick butt) but also has a floppy, forgiving tip. However, this is where it gets embarrassing. I knew that I would be hooking, holding tight and hauling large Tench out of sparse lily beds. I didn't think my old CTM had the power I needed. I chose a 12', two piece, 1 1/4lb TC North Western rod that was designed for Tench. It's a bit of a beast and I don't use it very much. Its black. I hope Mark doesn't read this bit. Keep it secret, just between you and me :-)

BSC,

Thank you. I am planning a day out next Tuesday at a different lake but after my 'perfect day' my expectations are low. We will see :-)
