Dave Austin landing nets and bank sticks

Post by Deaf Cat »

Twice lucky!

I put in a hopeful bid for a flamed cane landing net handle plus net and was surprised yesterday to win unopposed at the starting price. The seller then contacted me to ask whether I would prefer to collect it rather than paying the postage. I hadn’t expected to win and I hadn’t noticed that the seller was only 10 miles away.

So I went to collect it this morning and the seller was Dave Austin. I felt guilty paying £10 for such a gorgeous item but then impulse-bought a pair of bank sticks.

He showed me the finished cane arms for a mega carp landing net and a refurbished rod. Nice man doing lovely work. He obviously does not need to advertise, relying on word of mouth, and probably knowing many of the TFF members.

And that tripod (see earlier strand http://traditionalfisherman.co.uk/viewt ... =66&t=1513) was his.

So now I shall have to take a dustpan and brush to the bank – or choose mud-free venues!

The brass fitting on the net probably cost more than £10

I'm surprised the starting price wasn't higher....

It's a shame he didn't go into production with his Walker net. Last year he sold of three sets of parts on ebay.

The arms I saw must have been about 40 inches, so I suspect he is making Walker style nets to order. They were amazingly slim and fine.

I just won a second pair of bank sticks off Dave on EBay.

That's my two rod support setup for Redmire sorted.... Assuming I can get them in the ground of course...

Since they concreted all the swims that maybe a problem :sarcasm:
Never mind it was traditional lime based concrete! :hahaha:
