Christchurch Bridge Pool
If you want a days dace fishing to remember try the Bridge pool at Christchurch from the punt. Last summer we fished from the punt (trotted maggot/worm) for Sea Trout and had dozens of dace to about 9oz. and caught hundreds of them to 6-8 oz. Sadly, only about 6 Sea Trout though.

Somewhere I've always wanted to fish.

Go for it! You will need at least a gallon of maggots if you're trotting for sea trout, just to feed the dace off. 3 of us went and paid for 2 rods (2 rods max) to make it cheaper, and took turns to fish. My son and a friend caught most of the sea trout on the fly.

Finally doing this after a lifetime of wanting to...a 60th birthday present from an understanding wife...and a Brady bag to take there too......
It all started with an episode of Go Fishing.

Re: Christchurch Bridge Pool
I have not fished at Christchurch for years. Back in the days of the maggot ban on the Royalty (mid 1970s I think) I fished with small cubes of meat and had some lovely dace. Hope you catch some whoppers Nobby.

Re: Christchurch Bridge Pool
Well done Sir!
When are you going and what will you be hoping to catch??
The dace there are really easy to catch, so be sure to use a big hook and thick line
And if you see any big mullet they're best ignored, for if you try to catch them you'll do this
and then a bit more
(This must be a tff record, since I first posted this near 2 years ago it recieved one reply, not counting mine, and now suddenly the topic's cropped up with several replies). Like waiting for a London Bus

Re: Christchurch Bridge Pool
The ticket is apprently for 'warm weather as he won't want to get cold" ( she knows me so well), so we are going in High Summer ( better take a brolly then ) and I'll need a game licence for the day.
It'd be nice to get some roach...I understand they don't mind a bit of brackish water...and I can see bread making an appearance if the mullet come in.....possibly NOT on a roach rod.......
But I'll take whatever comes along....and a LOT of maggots!
For those who don't know the venue, it's a punt moored across the river by a chain, situated a mile up from the confluence of Stour and Avon ...a few stills uploaded by another angler a few years ago:

Re: Christchurch Bridge Pool
Yes Hovis, that's correct, the episode was called River Speedsters. It was JWs intention to fish for sea trout, from the punt.....
