Loads over the years. Probably anything he could get his hands on. From memory, Allcocks Lucky Strike, Sealey Floatcaster, Ambidex, Allcocks Ariel, Hardy Altex, Abu Cardinal. There must be loads more

I know he used a 4" Ariel. One of them is a wooden pin which looked like a fairly standard reel (which can be picked up relatively cheaply).

Richard Carter Dragonfly centrepin. He's also got a square Aerial.......

Surprisingly, no one has mentioned a certain B. James Richard Walker Mk IV Avon rod.........

I believe he used a Hardy Victor at Redmire as well.

I just finished Four Seasons. Mr. Yates is writing also about some fishing trips with Avocet.

Hardy Victor (9 ft?) for sure. He writes about its stalking abilities in his first book I think.

The MkIV Avon that he caught the Bishop with wasn't a B. James rod. It has a greater pedigree than that – it was a rod built by Walker himself.
