The main snag is that they'll swallow a lot of backing before the rate of retrieve is much cop - anyone know a lightweight but fairly incompressible thread for the job?

Now that I haven't seen!

There are no illustrations of the 8926cp reel, which is a little absurd since it was the most expensive,. but there you go.......

To prove they exist:

My two beauties - note the different styles of handles. I also have a third, a beast/wreck, the pin appears to be too short, and various attempts at shimming it have not born fruit.

I didn't doubt you Vole, but it is great to see these two, I had no idea that some were produced with a "float screw" !

I see one has a line guard too, not mentioned in the catalogues it must be genuine as the cp had a different centrepin to the others.

A very under-rated reel, they obviously appeared in more versions than even Allcocks have mentioned.

I removed a line guard from mine Nobby as it was set to RH wind.

Vole, thanks for that! Now I have something else to search for :Hair out:

I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

You can 'tweak' the spring tangs to make the check work for left hand wind, but that huge old line guard might be interesting to move....very fragile is Bakelite.......

I do enjoy reading the older post. ( thats not to say the new ones are no good!)
I was watching again Rod and Line with Michael Holding and got a quick screen shot of The Umble Aerialite..
Correct me If I am wrong... ( I have around five now and love them)
He dose have some nice old tackle... love his landing net too.

The close season is an important and interesting time for the Angler who set out to catch big fish. It is a timely opportunity for him to make new tackle or renovate old. There are no end of jobs to do, apart from those horrible things called Gardens!

Perhaps Michael Holding was more than just a West Indian fast bowler? :tea:

Thumbs up here for these underrated reels. I have one and it's an excellent still water reel. Cheap as chips too.
