Sorry for teasing you!

I know, gentlemen, you'll have to wait another month before you can get back to the river bank. So please stop reading now!

As there's no closed river season in Germany and we had the first warm and pleasant evening of the year, I sneeked out for an hour of trotting.

In recent years this swim has produced some nice barbel, chub, nase (Chondrostoma nasus, my avatar), carp, perch, pike, catfish and my pb brown trout (5lb10oz). There are of course smaller species like bleak, dace and roach.
I loose fed some sweetcorn while pairing my Sealy Strikrite and the Rapidex. I chose a homemade elder pith stick and a no. 10 Drennan Sweetcorn barbless hook. So if any specimen decided to come a long, I'd be prepared.

Well the specimens didn't show up and sweetcorn didn't produce any bites. I offered some bread and 4 beautiful roach graced my net. I don't usually weigh the fish. I guess the biggest was about 1lb. But see for yourself:

You've read the whole report and now you can't wait to go river fishing? Don't blame me! I told you not to read my thread!

16 June will be there in no time.

My experience of English river roach in June suggests they are generally in poor condition this time of year and sporadic feeders; give it a few weeks though, they regain condition and feed more consistently.

Wonderful read Martin.

There have been some corking roach caught here from lakes these last few weeks. A 4-3-00 from Homersfield and a catch from the same lake of SIX three pounders. From what I can see they are genuine roach (but I'd defer to a higher authority).

Rumour from the Shire is some very big numbers of very big roach coming from the pits South Cerney way...nothing traditional about the methods though...:

Nice write-up Martin.

It is great to see those beautiful colors, on the roach and the river.
