Loose ferrule

Post by Buller »

My new rod's ferrule is relatively snug and does pop slightly when separated but the tip section can move around if turned. I'm not sure whether this will be a problem from a fishing point of view (given that there won't be repeated casting like a fly-rod), but is there anything one can do to remedy this?
Thanks in advance

Loose ferrules must be seen to.

Every time you cast it will 'rock' and either the cane will become bellows-shaped inside the ferrules or the metal of the ferrules themselves will distort.

It all depends upon what is loose in what...it might be the ferrules are loose in one another( they'll still 'pop') or the ferrules are loose on the rod as the cane has shrunken.

Everything is fixable, though before you spend more money you might prefer to try the rod out fishing to see if it warrants it. B.James made around 15,000 Mark IVs....some of them are bound to be no good, I guess.

You can buy a brand new serrated end, re-inforced ferrule for only £18.

I'm just not going to say where on an open forum
