This is my collection of B James and sons rods so far. only an Avocet to find from my list still but something else may take my fancy as well ;) .The Avon and Kennet have been fully restored and the MK4 carp and Avon have only had repairs to guide whippings and varnish as needed, 90 percent original. the bottom one was a MK4 that came with 4' off the top section and 4' hack-sawed off the butt to make both bits the same. wrong tip and butt guides and a sea rod screw down reel seat added over where the transfer would have been, a very sad looking stick and were it not for the fact it had a splendid action still and most of the intermediates were still intact it may have ended up as a pair of rod rests. now with a new short cork handle, 22", Hopkins and Holloway hardlon lined guides and a new button It is now named a 'B James Stalker'

Lovely rods indeed. But don't waste your money on an Avocet....call me a heretic but...they are horrible!

Many have said that about the kennet bug I like mine. An early avocet with whole cane butt that I had a waggle with felt nice which it's on the list but not interested in a later built cane one as they are a bit on the floppy side.

Tell me more about the grebe though :)

You are right about the built cane model, heavy and floppy....or as my mate put it "ten pints floppy"....

I recently got the chance to waggle a mint Avocet dated from the late 1940s. Not at all floppy just drop dead gorgeous!
