The Rudd is probably one of our most beautiful fish and a big Rudd is a very scarce and sought after fish. Big Rudd waters are becoming increasingly difficult to track down, although there are a few waters across the country that still hold good fish. I’d be interested to find out if there are any good Rudd waters down here on the south coast. I know there were some in Frensham, as Bob James showed us in APFA. And in Catching the Impossible Martin Bowler found a pool with monsters in.

Do you know of any specimen Rudd waters near you?

Frensham still produces big rudd, though they can be hard to track down amid the shoals of small rudd. These two lakes do have the right look for rudd, what with all the reeds - though it must be said gravel pits do produce big rudd more readily.

Rudd in my opinion are the most beautiful fish that swim in our island.

and this being my 250th post I should now be a Rudd!

During the summer I see some very nice Rudd most lunchtimes.

Unfortunately they live in the lake in St James park so I can't fish for them.

Theres also hoards of small fish and a few nice Carp including one of 30lb plus.

my first fish was a small Rudd caught on a 6ft green glass woolworths rod. Now used by my daughter.

I often used to stop and look for fish in there when I worked at a certain large building nearby (which must remain nameless) but never saw any rudd in there. Did see carp - usually around the island at the Palace end - though nothing much over ten pounds.

There are some rudd in my local lake, I have had them to about 12oz. In fact I have caught a couple on each of my last two trips. I haven't heard of any bigger ones coming out. They are far outnumbered by the roach.

My first fishing rod was a 6ft green glass Woolworths rod, complete with Winfield reel. It was a hand-me-down from my older brother after he upgraded to some 'proper' tackle (a Shakespeare rod & reel!).
Never caught a rudd on it though...
