Lovely rod for sure. Couple of questions
1. Why is it called Gold label? is it because it has a gold lable?
2. What action is this rod and what type of fishing was it designed/ used for

Got it in one. Early rods had the gold oval label, later rods had a more simple transfer with black script.

Avon, through action, all round rod for river and still water

from memory when i held one it was like the MK1V Avon with a much better ( shorter handle) fish between say 2 to 6lb?

very good balance i think? from memory? would you agree?

Yes, the balance is very good indeed. I have no experience of the MKIV Avon I'm afraid.

I've landed a 12lb carp on a 500, I did have some anxious moments but that was due to my inexperience with the rod which actually coped very well indeed. I believe someone on here landed a 20 so it's a very capable rod.

It inspires confidence, I know it would land anything that swims in my local river.

Many have said "if you could only own one rod it would be a Chapman 500"

Mr Tench Dreamer The 500 i have has accounted for a very nice Common Carp of 21lb 12oz. from a little pond that i believe you' fished years ago with Gaz The Angler. Crownfield lake just behind the Rollerbowl.

Hello Ljm 183, you popped along as well and we all met up. Sadly Gaz is no longer with us. Lovely little farm pond just outside Romford. I had a much smaller Carp that day also on light tackle. Gaz was a really nice bloke and I was glad to have met him. And now you mention it I remember Gaz talking alot about cane rods and aspiring to a 500 , or maybe he had just got one.
