I am very grateful to Mr John Chapman who found me an original tip ring for my 500. I was thus able to complete the makeover and keep the rod to standard spec.
Varnish spruced up, rings cleaned and polished, two rings re whipped and its good for another fifty years I reckon!
I am so pleased I resisted the temptation to strip the rod back to bare cane as I love the colour which I would have struggled to replicate. Adding additional rings would have meant a complete strip hence it remains true to its origins.
I am also very grateful to Fredline who responded to my appeal on the forum for a suitable tip ring which I fully intended to use on the 500 until I spoke to Mr Chapman who provided the original. However with John's blessing the ring he gifted will be used on my next project. Thank you so much John
Good to be back in the 500 club!
