Re: Roach Reflections
Ok a further suggestion. How to hold rod and wind reel whilst trotting trotting with "right to left" hand flow. And then "left to right" hand flow if you cross a bridge over river. And ones reel ( like the MMatch) has no ability to switch handle sides.
Basic but important.
Great series. Masterclass in fact. (Ref Smith and Giles).

Re: Roach Reflections
That's simple - right to left - rod in right hand - reel in using left hand - line off the bottom.
The flowing the other way - rod in left hand -- turn reel around - line off the top - reel in using right hand!
That of course sorts out the 'pin men! No line guard required.
Fixed spool - buy an ambidextrous reel - change the handle!

Re: Roach Reflections
Hence my last comment - - and proof that centrepins are better than fixed spools - for trotting!

Re: Roach Reflections
I'm right-handed, I always hold the rod in my right hand and wind in/control the line with my left hand regardless of whether the river is flowing from right to left or left to right and the type of reel used. I think you'll find just about everyone else does exactly the same.Mark99 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 8:30 pm Ok a further suggestion. One confession is that when I started fishing I did, for a couple of years, hold the rod in my left hand and have a right-hand wind reel then realised that I should be doing it the other way round.
In my latest video I'm trotting right to left:
