Can anyone give me any info on this rod please, I have been offer one for £20

Yeah I saw that one too Dave, looks to be ok, was looking for something to restore but it may not need it shall wait and see

I might just point out that the Hunter 1000 is a fibreglass rod from the late 60's, whereas the Hunter and Hunter SP are hollow-built cane rods.


There's nothing wrong with a 'glass rod, but the last Hunter 1000 on eBay fetched £21.


If it IS a cane rod for £20 I'd bite his hand off!....even if it's the 14 foot monster.

Thats the one Nobby, the winning bidder wanted to pay for it in 4 weeks so the seller asked if I wanted it for my bid which was twenty quid. I was looking for a glass rod of some sorts, and I saw the one on davyr's link for £125. So the one on ebay is the same so I put a bid in. If its a dud ok my mistake but if its a good un' then yay for me.

I reckon it'll be a nice old rod, and a good set of rings is worth that now anyway.

Or thought they were getting a cane rod

At £20 you cant go wrong. I used to collect early fiberglass rods before moving to cane only and still have a couple of Edgar Sealey rods, a black arrow and a combination rod that I'm fairly sure was theirs. i briefly had a hunter 1000 and i'd class it as a tench rod more than anything but still soft enough for smaller species. only trouble with old glass rods is as where there are people still making cane replacement sections for many cane rods there is no one making replacement glass sections so make sure it's not got any damage before spending time and money restoring. My black arrow came with 6" missing from the top and i managed to find a piece of glass rod that matched and splice it in with a glass sheath over it to add strength, it works and would have been a repair that could have been done in the 60's/70/s but a bigger tip guide was put on instead.
