So having completed a move to the South Downs only weeks previously Matron
was well and truly glad to see the back of her spouse, willingly writing out a Day Pass, in triplicate mind, several days before the events covered here took place. The Beast even helped pack the numerous pies so necessary for any fishing expedition undertaken by Fatty; even going as far as buying a new Stanley Flask. The old one was deemed truly disgusting and a potential health hazard. Perhaps a little extreme but wives always seem to justify change with abuse to their spouse.So Abshot Pond was the destination of choice for the AM and Fatty......carting all the scran took two journeys to the venue, let alone the fishing gear!
This is a small venue with only ten swims but the home to some good fish. Setting up an Allcocks Pop with Perfection Roach and light waggler to fish a small pellet on the drop in one of the available swims took minutes. The Mariner did his usual mucking about, looking more senile than ever whilst putting on a ridiculously large float for such a small water. No bites for him then
And so the prophecy was full filled!
Fatty on the other hand, in-between, scoffing some really good pies, slurping piping hot teas from the new flask, flicking pellets at the Mariner who still doesn't know where they come from, whilst singing happily and badly was playing some good tench with a smattering of roach thrown in!

The Bailiff who popped by to muck about with some hard core for pond bank improvement did recount to Fatty about the Roach being about a pound or so just as the rotund oaf holding the rod caught several in quick succession to prove the veracity of the Club Representatives words. Fatty is obliging like that:
The Ancient Mariner was now at the ratty stage, still on an El Blanco, so discretion being the better part of valour, packing up time was declared but not before a Robin' Robin was caught in the act of theft.....cheeky little so and so!!!
Back at the car a call on the newly imposed burner phone, so the Beast can keep tabs on her errant Spouse, announced to Fatty that a Fish and Chip Supper, at her expense, was on the cards.
Driving like Donald Campbell the Fat One got back in record time for a really good feed.
A splendid end to a good day.
To attempt to understand why Matron
was in such a good mood as to splash the cash on such great grub for Fatty to scoff at light speed, before she changes her mind, is too complicated to contemplate. Have no doubt though the 'orrible truth will be revealed in the not to distant future....oh yes!!!!!!As ever,.....
