Chapman's 550 handle ferrule advice please.
Morning All,
I've picked up a Late 550 at a reasonable price...nice condition, apart from the black Chapman's and Co sticker has sadly disappeared. However, the handle ferrule is a tad loose, and although waving it happily around this morning (as I cast to an imaginary 30 pounder) I don't think it will separate, has anyone any suggestions please? I'm now pretty competent at replacing and tightening ferrules courtesy of advice from here, but not damaging the lovely original cork presents a challenge. The rod is to be used by myself, so I would like to make it a little more secure.
Thanks Cat

Can't help you with the ferrule but I have a spare water slide decal you can have.

My 500 had a slack handle ferrule when I first found it. I just used pole repair varnish/lacquer? on the male ferrule. Hard as Nails (ladies fingernail treatment) does the same job.

Rub candle wax along the male part of the ferrule all round, then check to see if it has tightened up if not apply more. That should to.the trick. That's if the female ferrule is not loose in the handle.

Re: Chapman's 550 handle ferrule advice please.
Is it definitely the female ferrule? Might it be worth re setting the male ferrule first just to be sure?
I have had a similar problem in the past. The male ferrule had cracked and loosened, fortunately I had a suitable replacenent male ferrule so didn't have to worry about the female ferrule under the corks.
If the female ferrule is loose, it's quite an easy job to strip the corks off, re glue the female ferrule and pop on some new corks.

Indeed, having had a closer inspection, I think I'll reset the male ferrule firstly as this is the more straight forward of the jobs, and there see where we are. Thanks
