Hi Chaps

Sorry if this hascome up up before.
Do any of you know if there is anyody who makes or will make me a couple of replacement reel footss for t wo Grice and Young reels ?
I could probably do this myself (eventually)but a pro job would be much better.
I did make one out of bamboo but the mechanics to getting a solid fixing are tricky to say the least. It needs the nut and bolt that holds the foot to the reel to go through the foot to the reel backplate, this puts all srts of lumps and bumps where you do not want them.
The original uses a recessed threaded bolt which goes UP through the backplate and screws into the metal foot. Also as the original foot is curved on the bottom for a better fit to the reel and of course it is the wrong way for the bamboo to fit securely. All the problems are Iam sure fettelable but still would not be as good as a proper bespoke job.
Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated by both me and the pins.

I should have thought of that , l will contact him to seeif he can help.
In the meantime I applied the grey matter and a dremmel to the lumps problem and ground the bamboo foot down, also covered the ground down nuts and bolts with a piece of rubber tube to save too muchdamage to the rod handle.
This repair seems sturdy but have not been able to test it properly yet. The pics show abefore and after grinding.
I will still ring Mr Mills as a proper job would be preferable.

I replaced a broken foot on a similar centre pin using a brass foot cut off a cheap wooden reel. You will probably need to use a drill and tap to make some new threads. Obviously a hacksaw and files too.

Had you considered buying a bashed up donor G&Y centrepin? Quite a lot com up with serious alloy corrosion on the body but the feet always look ok.

That would be perfect IF I had access to a 3d printer .
Never thought making a reel foot was so complicated not the 3d thingybob but the metalwork. I measured 5 times but it still came out slightly skewed but usable also I never realised that normal drill bits didn’t drill flat bottomed holes. I got a set of bits that do that now.
I really admire engineer’s there nouse.
