Hardy Exalta?

Post by Cat »

Evening All,
Just wondering if anyone uses a Hardy Exalta on a regular basis or at all, and what your thoughts are?
Reason I'm asking I'm thinking of lining up one I've had in the back of the cupboard for years (the handle does, and always has seemed a tad loose, despite stripping it down and servicing - doesn't seem any way of tightening it, and there doesn't seem to be anything missing when studying schematics).
Regards Cat

I use a pair of Exaltas for my carp fishing and they have never let me down.

Only if it's a mark 2 reel.

I like to use them with the reel foot swung back like the swan necked Ambidex models. More comfortable.

I regularly use one of these reels.

Excellent reel and in many ways superior to my Altex.

John :)
This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

A well thought out reel and a lot easier to work on than the Altex.
Spares do seem harder to find but I suppose that's because they were made in smaller numbers.

Evening All,
Thanks...irrespective of loose handle, I'll spool up and give it a go, and agreed Wal, putting a man on the moon was probably more straightforward than a full Altex strip down. I also have the equivalent of the Holy Grail - a spare Exalta bail spring.
Regards Cat

I once bought a reel just to get the bail spring for an otherwise mint Exalta. Mad I know but I could not get a spring anywhere.
I now have a source who had three left as of last week. I would tell you who my source is but then I would have to kill you. :Chuckle:

Wal, rather than kill me you may have to marry me as, unlike Mrs Dragon the Cornish Witch, you obviously understand the principle of donor reels (...then another donor reel for the original sad looking donor reel, and then another...)!
