Russell Brown Floats

As a fairly new member Russell has racked up a fair number of interesting posts on several subjects, which have had plenty of response. What hasn't come out of these, unless I have missed them, is that he is a float maker of note.

Not sure of the dates, as these days years seem to fly by, but is must be well over 10 years since I acquired some of his floats. I liked them so much I contacted him to make me a range of Nottingham (Brookes) Sliders, which I still have and have used while perching. We met just once at a very early Romsey Tackle Fair.

His floats were so well thought of that a couple appeared in Hooked on Floats alongside other great makers (Page 412). I know Andrew Field appreciated his work and he had some of his floats in his collection. I asked him to make me more but he fell off the radar and stopped making them. When I contacted him recently he told me the reason. I think that was the wrong decision but I will leave him to comment on that if he wishes.

Welcome Russell :Hat:

Nice looking traditional floats.
Come on Russell, get some more knocked up, we all love to see the results of the float makers art.

Wal.

Thank you all for your generous comments. The 'segmented' floats were my signature Grandmasters. They sold very, very well in all styles,ie Avons,Antennas and Bobs.I think I may have even made a big Grandmaster Pike Slider for someone. In a box somewhere are my last 3.Possibly fluted balsa Avons.No...tell a lie,I've still got a fluted CORK Avon.I couldn't decide if I liked it or not so I kept it.
