Seat box restored

Post by Fred »

About six years ago I bought a French seat box as a project, I started restoring it but stopped. It has
been sitting in my seller and then the back of my workshop ever since. After a day out fishing with a friend
who is also a lover of cane and all things traditional and seeing a seat box he was using it renewed my interest
in the one in I had. The plan was the just take it apart and use all its original parts unless I couldn't because they
where to fare gone. As it turned out I just had to replace one draw bottom, the carrying strap and the seat cover
( which I had done all those years ago). The biggest job was going to be getting rid of the mould and making shore
it didn't come back. Here are some photos of the job.

The next job is to kit it out with traditional tackle, make some floats for it and then use it.

That’s a lovely job Fred. You’ll have a great time filling those drawers with traditional float winders and assorted vintage paraphernalia.
You really must post again when the jobs complete :Hat:

Neglected to fabulous restoration....

Excellent transformation,well done Fred.

The construction is interesting A frames for strength and added ply panels, almost house like.

The closest I could manage this weekend was refitting an Octoplus leg set the a Shakey seat box...not quite the same league.

All the best Nige.
