Sad to see the changes. I will hold on to my memories of the river above Ongar in the late 60s. A knee deep run with more 8-12 oz roach than water. And chub to 4lb mooching round in groups making little attempt to hide in the slower water below.

Then the diggers arrived and started the canalisation of the bends

Thanks for all the replies. Above and below the weir is quite shallow and full of minnows and fry . A couple of years ago I watched the minnows and fry constantly trying to swim up the weir not even getting halfway. In a couple of weeks hopefully it'll see some of the committee members and they may know the reason.It does seems a lot of effort for minimal gain unless I am wrong
